Fishtail skirt, trumpet shiluette, fit and flare dress, hourglass silhouette long gown, bodycon

Cut the front center and back center pieces on the center fold, one of each.
Cut the front side and back side pieces in mirror image, two of each.
Cut six identical bottom skirt pieces.

Fuse the waistband piece with fusible interfacing for extra firmness.
All the fitted upper pieces were cut in two layers – lace and satin. This gives the upper part more structure, and the second layer also serves as a lining.

All pieces were cut with a 1 cm seam allowance.
The seam allowance size can be adjusted by the sewist depending on the type of fabric (whether it frays easily or not) and on the chosen sewing method, such as using a serger or French seam.
Since this skirt requires a snug, well-fitted look, if you are unsure whether the skirt measurements will fit your body, it is best to cut the pieces with a larger seam allowance (+2 cm), baste them together, try the skirt on, and make adjustments as needed.
Each body shape is different, and adjustments to the pattern are almost inevitable.

The bottom skirt pieces were sewn from chiffon.
For finishing the edges, I used a baby lock seam, which gives a nice, light, flowy look and prevents the fabric from puckering.
If you don’t have this option, you can simply fold and hem the edges of these pieces.

I used a 25 cm invisible zipper.
When sewing an invisible zipper, use a special zipper foot designed for it.

After sewing the upper part of the skirt, attach the bottom pieces one by one.
Sew from the top corner downward with separate seams – this helps to avoid creating unwanted wrinkles at the top corners.

The model in the photo is wearing a size 42 EU and is 175 cm tall.
When measuring the skirt length, don’t forget to include your heel height.
Measure the skirt length on your body with a ruler from the ground up, as the back and front of the body are not the same length – this ensures a perfect fit.

Please note that the required amount of fabric does not change depending on the size — all sizes need the same amount. This is because the skirt size changes only in width, not in length.

The fabric length has been calculated based on a standard fabric width of 140 cm. If you’d like to save a bit of fabric, you could choose a wider fabric, for example, 160 cm wide. In that case, the pattern pieces could be arranged differently and perhaps a little more efficiently, allowing you to save a small amount of length — but not significantly.

Best wishes,
Soulmatte
