Using stretch knit fabric for the upper part of the dress significantly simplifies both the sewing and fitting process and helps conceal minor construction imperfections.

This type of pattern also greatly simplifies the decorating process with lace or embellishments, as many of the pattern pieces are completely flat. This allows you to apply lace or Swarovski embellishments directly on a flat surface before sewing the side seams.

In this sample collection, I used a lot of skin-tone, four-way stretch mesh fabric to create a sense of lightness and an illusion of bare skin.

For sewing the upper part of the dress, choosing the right fabric is essential. You cannot go wrong with four-way stretch Lycra, elastic lace mesh, or stretchy velvet fabrics. If lace embellishments are cut and hand-sewn, they will not significantly compromise the garment’s stretch and will still allow comfortable movement.

Some patterns include detailed step-by-step video tutorials, while others come with no written sewing instructions, so please assess your skill level accordingly.
